Itchy Breast in Puberty

Puberty is the stage when children start experiencing changes in their bodies to prepare them for adulthood. Girls begin puberty earlier than boys and one of the more prominent changes in their bodies is the budding of their breasts. During puberty, girls can notice that their breasts will begin to increase in size. There are quite a number of girls who complain about experiencing itchy breast during the process.

Because this will be the first time that the breasts of the girl will start to gain in size, the skin will be subjected to a considerable amount of stretch. Stretching of the skin can instantly cause an itching sensation. The development of the breasts does not only cause itching, but it is also often accompanied by tenderness and pain especially when the chest area is palpated. To help relieve itchiness, a lot of girls apply moisturizing creams in the area.

The itchiness will continue to be felt for at least a year into puberty. It will not be constant but it will occasionally feel itchy at times especially when the breasts rapidly increase in size. Although the breasts will continue to develop and gain in size for the next 5 years or more, the itchiness will eventually subside after a year because the elasticity of the chest skin has already adapted to the growth.
